Yogacharya Umesh Chandra Dwivedi was born to Shri Chandra Bhuwan Dwivedi and Kusum Dwivedi in 1952. He studied B.Sc., M.A, L.L.B. He worked as a journalist and editor of local newspapers before joining government services. He rose up in the career path as Additional Director of Public Relations for Chhattisgarh state. He retired as director of Public Relations Department of Chhattisgarh state government in January 2012. He worked as OSD - public relations to CM for a few years immediately after retirement. He was very honest, committed, and efficient in his work. He was well respected and recognized in his professional circle. His spiritual quest brought him to Kriya Yoga. In 1994, Umesh Chandra Dwivedi was initiated into the path of Kriya Yoga at the Karar Asham in Puri, India. The following year, he had the privilege of spending time with his beloved Master, Paramahamsa Hariharanandaji, at Taligajnj, Kolkata, and also at the Rourkela Kriya Yoga Ashram. He inspired all of his family members to get initiated into Kriya Yoga. As a Yogacharya he extensively traveled Central India with many monks. Just before his sudden demise at the age of 70, he participated in the 63rd birthday celebrations of Shri Guruji Paramahamsa Prajnananandaji at Hariharananda Dhyana Kutir, Amarkantak. He was the center leader of the Kriya Yoga group in Raipur for many years guiding Kriyavans. Because of his expertise in Hindi, he also helped with the literary works of Prajnana Mission. He ardently read scriptures; the Ramcharitmanas was his favorite. He always stressed that the devotion to Guru and sincere practice of Kriya are the chief elements for spiritual progress. On August 12, 2022, Yogacharya Dwivedi felt unwell after returning from a program at the Amarkantak Ashram. He was rushed to the hospital immediately where he breathed his last. He is survived by a daughter Shikha and two sons Sachin and Sanket. Yogacharya Dwivedi Baba will be always remembered for his pleasing personality and amicable nature under all circumstances.
