Yogacharya Martin Gostentschnig

Martin Gostentschnig, originally from Kühnsdorf, Austria, has led a life richly woven with the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth. His formative years in the classrooms of Tanzenberg were pivotal, as his teachers cultivated his deep interest in philosophy, setting the foundation for his future pursuits.

In 1997, Martin moved to Vienna, intent on furthering his academic goals and aspiring to become a psychotherapist. His educational journey was characterized by a keen interest in psychology, culminating in a diploma in this field in 2003. However, it was not solely academia that shaped his path; a significant turning point was his encounter with the "Autobiography of a Yogi." This book not only inspired him but also led to the serendipitous discovery of a nearby ashram, conveniently located close to his student hostel.

Martin's spiritual path underwent a profound transformation in May 1998, when he was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Peter Baba. A few weeks later, coinciding with Buddha Purnima, he met Paramahamsa Prajnananandaji, forming an immediate and enduring bond. He quickly became an essential part of the Kriya Yoga Centre Vienna, serving as Baba's personal assistant. In this role, he was pivotal in familiarizing Baba with modern technology, assisting in his initial publications, and affectionately earning the title of "Computer guru."

Engaging deeply in psychology, psychotherapy, and later philosophy, he devoted significant time at the ashram, immersing himself in examining spiritual philosophies. His quest for a deeper understanding led him to enroll in a doctoral program in the philosophy of science in 2004, eager to explore the interplay between science, psychology, psychotherapy, and spirituality. The academic endeavors reached a high point in 2009 when he earned his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna.

Since 1998, Kriya Yoga Meditation has been a vital part of his life, providing balance amidst the demands of his professional career.

In addition to his personal development, Martin committed himself to societal service, notably with the aid organization Hand in Hand, where he served as Secretary General for four years.

In recent years, Martin has taken on the esteemed position of Secretary General for the European division of the Kriya Yoga organization. His authorization in September 2023 to teach the Kriya Yoga meditation technique signified the beginning of a new chapter in his spiritual journey.

Martin exemplifies the ideal of harmonizing spiritual practice with the complexities of modern life. His story is a testament to the attainability of inner peace and spiritual growth amid the hustle and bustle of contemporary living.
